About brake rotors

A rotor is worn out when it falls under the minimum thickness cast into the hub, or when the face has grooves deep enough to catch a fingernail. Warped discs announce themselves through a pulsing brake pedal at highway speed.

Vented rotors carry cooling vanes between two friction faces and handle heat far better than solid discs, which is why they sit on the front axle of almost every modern car. Drilled-and-slotted faces vent gas and water off the pad surface and hold up under repeated hard braking.
